David and Lucy Chaves

Serving In: Kenya

David and Lucy concentrated their efforts in Nairobi, Kenya on helping youth to develop a Biblical world view as well as business skills. They make frequent trips to Kenya to encourage those in the ongoing programs. They hope to develop further ministries in Western Kenya.

SAMS Roles: Missionary (Lucy), Associate Missionary (David)

Home Church: The Falls Church Anglican, Falls Church, Virginia

Starting Year with SAMS: 2009

Calling to Ministry (Lucy): As a child I always felt a presence surround me and a constant voice asking “who are you?”, I didn’t’ have an answer then, I didn’t know the questioner. I had heard the Gospel preached but in an often frightening manner, I was afraid of the god of wrath, but one day I heard a message about God who was full of Grace, I gave my life to Christ and over the years, a soul that was lost in oblivion experienced light and life, I breathed, I danced, I rejoiced, I felt free and able, I was no longer a victim. Jesus revived my life and gave meaning where none existed. I share the Gospel because I know God used His Word to change my life. He commands us, through Jesus Christ to go and Disciple the Nations, Baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. My calling is a response to his command.

Mission and/or Vision for Ministry (Lucy): My vision for ministry is to make disciples through evangelism and teaching. God has called me to work particularly with Kenyan youth from difficult backgrounds, especially those who are struggling physically and emotionally with poverty, neglect, or feeling lost. As a missionary, I aim to share the love of God and inspire hope through Christ-centered educational programs, mentorship, and mission. By God’s grace, my husband and I have been blessed to walk alongside young women and men and watch God mold and shape them into dynamic Christian leaders who share their faith with boldness and use their gifts to bless others in need.
