Gregory and Heidi Whitaker
SAMS Role: Missionaries
Home Church: Church of the Resurrection, Wheaton, IL
Starting Year with SAMS: 2013
Calling to Ministry: In their youth, Gregory and Heidi gained hearts for Gospel work in areas of the world where the Church is small and the socioeconomic situation is poor. In their early 20s before marriage, they both served with various missional groups in a few countries. They came together over a shared call to global missions. After marriage, they initially worked in an inner city context in the USA. As they sought how the Lord would have them love the church and the poor, He led Heidi to medical school and Gregory to seminary. Gregory also served on a church staff team helping the church walk with the poor. She became a pediatrician and he became an Anglican priest. They moved to Cambodia in 2013, where Heidi trains Cambodian Christian resident physicians at a hospital, and Gregory works in the Anglican Church of Cambodia pastoring a congregation and pioneering other missional work in partnership with the church.
Vision for Ministry: Gregory and Heidi hope to see the Anglican Church of Cambodia continue to grow and expand and eventually develop into a diocese with churches, education, and work among the poor. They aim to see Cambodian Christian physicians growing in their practice of medicine, in their faith, and in being missional in their contexts.
Personal Points of Interest: Heidi enjoys reading, keeping up with the medical world, and serving in children’s ministry. Gregory loves photography, coffee, and hiking.
